📜 The Eight Items

The eight essential items are:

1. Outer Robe (Saṅghāti): A large, thick double robe, often worn for warmth or as an outer garment.

2. Inner Robe (Uttarāsaṅga): A single robe worn over the lower garments.

3. Thick Double Robe (Antaravāsaka): The innermost lower robe or undergarment, worn around the waist.

4. Alms Bowl (Patta): Used by the monk or nun for gathering food during their daily alms round (piṇḍapāta).

5. Razor (Vāsi): Used for shaving the head and face, as part of maintaining a disciplined appearance.

6. Needle and Thread (Sūci): Used for mending robes and other cloth items.

7. Belt (Kāyabandhana): A waistband used to secure the robes.

8. Water Strainer (Parissāvana or Khārana): Used to remove small living impurities or insects from drinking water, preventing their accidental consumption (ahiṃsa).
